What We Offer

We offer numerous activities for grades Pre-K-12. Our activities are organized on a volunteer basis by individual parents who are members of our support group. Each family is asked to participate by helping with, planning, or coordinating at least one event per year. Our homeschool cooperative is run by volunteer families who, with the help of its members, strive to equip students with not only academic preparedness but a lifelong love of learning.

Membership in our support group provides access to our private calendar of events and email forums. The private access will give you more information about the activities going on within our group. Some of the activities include:

  • Family Events- Valentine’s card exchange, Easter egg hunt, Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas party & more

  • Promotion Night- Students are promoted to their next grade level in a special ceremony.

  • Seniors have a special ceremony to celebrate their homeschool graduation. Special activities are arranged just for our seniors by parent volunteers throughout the year.

  • Expo Night- Students have the opportunity to share a variety of what they have learned throughout the year through performances, class projects, and more.

  • International Day- This fun event is incorporated into the annual Expo. Students study a country and share facts in creative ways.

  • Testing- Annual testing is offered to satisfy county homeschool requirements.

  • Yearbook- A yearbook is published for purchase each year so families will have a keepsake of memories from each academic year.

  • Community Service- Community service events are offered throughout the year at places such as Give Kids the World and other organizations.

  • Field Trips- Field trips are organized throughout central Florida. We are fortunate to live in an area where there is so much to learn! Discounts are often given since we are attending as a group.

  • Moms Night Out- These special events just for our moms are normally offered once a month. It’s a great time to take a break and connect with other moms.

  • Teen Activities- Parent volunteers arrange a variety of activities catered directly to our teens such as game nights, special outings, sports days, and more.

  • Dances- Middle and high school students have a great time at the themed dances offered over the year. A DJ helps the kids dance the night away. Parent chaperones are present and the dress code is enforced. A prom is held at the end of the academic year for high school-aged students only. This is a special event for our high schoolers where a sit-down dinner is served and special photo opportunities are provided.

  • Park Days- The group rotates through a myriad of parks across Lake and Orange counties. It’s always a great time for all ages.

CLUBS

  • Drama Club- SLHE hosts two drama clubs:
    • Elementary Drama Club typically holds auditions in the first few weeks of the school year. The production is chosen by the director. Roles are chosen by a panel of drama club coordinators. The middle and high school students enjoy volunteering for stage crew, choreography, music, lights & sound crew, as well as prop construction. Practices take place on Thursday afternoons after co-op and occasionally on other days as needed. The production is usually performed before the holiday break. There is occasionally more than one performance time as the production warrants.

    • Middle & High Drama Club typically begin holding auditions before the holiday break. The production is voted on by the senior class and roles are chosen by a panel of drama club coordinators. Interested seniors can take on the role of student directors. Students not interested in acting may enjoy volunteering for stage crew, choreography, music, lights & sound crew, as well as prop construction. Since this is ordinarily a bigger scale production, practices are twice weekly. The production is usually performed in late spring and ordinarily warrants two performances.

  • Audio Visual Club- SLHE hosts this club monthly throughout the academic year. The goal of an AV club is to provide students with hands-on experience in the audio and visual arts, fostering creativity, technical skills, and teamwork. The skills learned by the students culminate in running all audio and visual for the drama club performances. A few of the skills our club members might learn are:
    • Photography
    • Video Production
    • Audio Production
    • Media Literacy
    • Event Production
    • Project Management
    • Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Book Club- Students engage in activities that revolve around reading, discussing, and analyzing literature. The primary aim is to foster a love for reading, critical thinking, and meaningful conversations. Students meet monthly at a variety of locations to discuss the book of the month.

  • Yearbook Club- Students engage in a variety of activities to develop skills related to journalism, photography, design, teamwork, and project management. Memories, events, and the overall essence of the academic year. Students meet monthly at the co-op location and occasionally online.

  • ASL Club- Students in the American Sign Language Club use the visual-gestural language used by many Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. The focus is on developing communication skills, cultural awareness, and fostering an environment of deaf culture. Students may perform ASL at special events throughout the year. Students meet monthly at the co-op location.
